A Passion for Freedom Part I - What is at Stake
As parents, there are many things in life we are passionate about - our children, our spouses, our families, etc. The political landscape of today has brought another passion to the forefront for me: Freedom.
I grew up free. I grew up knowing I had many options for my future and adult life. As a parent today, I am greatly concerned about the country in which my children are growing up.
Our freedoms are slowly and systematically being overtaken by those in power insistent on turning our country into a 'nanny state'. That is certainly not what I want. Nor, according to most polls, is it what the majority of Americans want.
In order to better understand what is at stake, it is important to understand how we, the United States of America, came to be and why we have the form of government known as a Republic.
A Republic? Yes. Many think our form of government is a Democracy, so I want to clarify the difference between the two. The chief characteristic and distinguishing feature of a Democracy is rule by Omnipotent Majority. In a Democracy, the Individual and any group of Individuals composing any Minority, have no protection against the unlimited power of the Majority. It is a case of Majority over Man. This is true whether it is a Direct Democracy or a Representative Democracy. In both types, the Majority's power is unlimited and absolute. Any decisions made by the Majority are unappealable under the legal system established to give effect to this form of government. This provides an environment for a Tyranny by Majority. This was what the Framers of the United States Constitution meant in 1787 in debates in the Federal Convention when they condemned the 'excesses of democracy' and abuses of the unalienable rights of the Individual by the Majority.

Really?!
OK...I've been watching and waiting. Quietly hoping and praying that the new administration would in fact be the unifying positive force it purported and promised to be during the campaign. During the acceptance speech on election night he said he was my President too. Oh, really?!
OUR President did not know about the TEA parties...really?!
Really?! Making documents public that have no business being in the public eye? Selectively blacking out key information on said documents to further a political agenda? Going after a past administration because BDR just won't die? How is this at all good for or helpful or unifying for our nation? We are a Representative Republic. This means we elect people to deal with subjects such as National Security...subjects that should not be made wholly public due to National Security! Does this ring any bells? Really?!
Really?! Allowing the morning after pill to be given to 17 year olds without a prescription? Have you lost your mind? Is your intent to continue to destroy the family? (Of course it is!) Aside for the pro-life vs. pro-choice (a nice way to say death) debate, this is about parents being involved in the lives of their children. It is NOT the place of government to interfere with the family. The government keeps taking more and more parental rights away all the while being sure to let us parents know (yes, I am one too...of 4) that we are still responsible for what they do. Really?!
Really?! Bailouts? The largest spending bill and power grab in history is supposed to HELP us poor, too stupid to manage our lives on our own so we need the President and his legislators to do it for us? You have got to be...kidding...me! These 'bailouts' are about growing government...about government telling PRIVATE citizens what they can earn, what they can spend their money on...what mode of travel is acceptable. It is NOT acceptable for the government to decide who can or cannot be CEO of a company. It is NOT acceptable for the President or his staff to call out private citizens publicly for any reason. Can you say Marxism? What's next? Do you really want to know? Really?!
Really?! OUR President, the people's President, did not know about the TEA parties? Is he so out of touch already or did he lie? Either way it's no good! Why is it the Democrat way to ridicule, marginalize, personalize, demonize, minimize and polarize those who oppose their views? What is happening to free speech? Is it free as long as it is in accordance with what the administration thinks? Are we skipping socialism and heading straight into Marxism? If you doubt this, read this: http://www.crossroad.to/Quotes/communism/alinsky.htm
